The railway transported more than 860,000 tons in July, constituting a new record, according to the Ministry of Transport.

The figure transported was reached through freight trains, and is part of the Rail Transport Modernization Plan promoted by Minister Alexis Guerrera throughout the country, according to a statement from the Transport portfolio.

In this regard, Guerrero stated that “When we took over the management we set ourselves a clear goal, which was to give the train back the place it should never have lost; today the figures show that we are on the right track. We have the best figures for cargo transport by train since records began, with more diversity of products that we move through more than half of the country, because we have already reached 13 of the 23 Argentine provinces with our trains.”

“It is a huge effort that we are making -Guerrera added-, but it returns many benefits to the country in logistics costs, in more connectivity, in sustainability and in a multimodal and efficient transport matrix. We are sure that the way to support producers and regional economies is by train”, added the official.

After reaching an all-time high in the first half of this year, the closing of July marked the best monthly record of the last 30 years: 861,329 tons dispatched through the three state lines. This is the best statistic for a period of 30 days since it began, in 1992, to keep the record of loads in the National Commission for Transport Regulation (CNRT).

The comparison shows a growth of 7% compared to the same period in 2021, and 73% compared to 2019.

“The railway has been consolidating in recent times as a fundamental gear of the productive matrix of the country; and we see that daily with the customers and products that get on our tracks”, highlighted, for his part, the president of Trenes Argentinos Cargas (TAC), Daniel Vispo.

The accumulated from January to July shows another record, with 4,718,094 tons; where the aggregates, which include products such as stone, flux, clinker, coking coal and sand represented almost 35% of the load with 1,638,376 tons.

Within this segment, broken stone stood out with 913,240 tons, a clear example of federal connectivity and productive promotion of regional economies since, through different traffic, the train links the provinces of Jujuy, Salta, Tucumán, Catamarca , Santiago del Estero, Chaco, Córdoba, San Luis, Santa Fe, Mendoza, Entre Ríos, Corrientes and Buenos Aires.

Contributing to the diversity of loads, consumer products such as cement, water and paper also increased their respective performances driven by customers who joined and trust in TAC’s commitment.

This growth is explained by investments in rolling stock and in works of different sizes, and in the last period the reactivation of the northern section of the Urquiza line that allowed the arrival of the train to Misiones was highlighted; the connection to the main road of more than 10 rail accesses added to the private investment logistics node located in San Francisco, Córdoba, to channel alfalfa to the Middle East.

Since last year, the rehabilitation of the causeway over Laguna La Picasa, in Santa Fe, has saved 24 hours of travel time on the line that connects the headwaters between Buenos Aires and Mendoza.
