The community prevented the river from taking him away and professionals determined that he was fit to return to his ecosystem.
News Colombia.
The heavy rains that hit the department of Córdoba have left a critical outlook in recent weeks. Floods caused by overflowing rivers and streams have destroyed homes, devastated crops and claimed the lives of domestic animals, livestock and wildlife.
In the midst of this emergency, a story managed to make its way through the tragedy. A video was spread through social networks that showed an adult puma fighting against the strong current of the Sinú River, visibly exhausted and at risk of being swept away by the waters.
Residents of the rural area acted quickly. Using ropes and putting their own safety at risk, several farmers managed to lasso the feline and take it to dry land before the flood dragged it downstream.
After the rescue, the community handed the animal over to the Environmental Police and later to the Regional Autonomous Corporation of the Sinú and San Jorge Valleys (CVS), the entity in charge of its care.
Medical evaluation and intact wild behavior
The cougar entered the CVS Wildlife Care and Assessment Center, where the veterinary medical team performed a complete assessment. During the examination, professionals examined their body condition, skin condition and ability to move.
According to the environmental authority, the specimen remained alert, active and with adequate motor coordination. In addition, he showed the ability to jump and responded quickly to environmental stimuli.
One of the most relevant aspects was its evasive behavior and rejection of human presence, a key indicator that it retains its wild instinct.
It was released into its natural habitat
Based on the clinical, biological and behavioral findings, the CVS determined that the feline was in optimal health conditions. For this reason, it authorized its immediate release into its natural habitat.
The entity confirmed that the puma has already returned to an environment suitable for its species, where it plays a fundamental role in the balance of ecosystems.

The environmental authority reiterated the call to citizens to report the presence of wildlife to the competent entities and avoid any attempt at manipulation or persecution.
The specialized team at the care center is trained to handle these types of situations, guaranteeing the safety of people and the protection of animals.
