During 2023, the state government allocated 400 million pesos to plant 30 million agaves especially in 104 municipalities in the Mixtec region, in the south of the state, with the purpose of reaching 500,000 liters and in five years reaching one million liters.

According to figures from the Ministry of Rural Development, mezcal has a value of 1,000 million pesos annually based on the marketing of 332,000 liters, of which 90,000 liters are exported to the United States, Colombia and Japan, where it has had good acceptance.

They create cooperatives

He recalled that 40 cooperatives were formed around the mezcal production chain, 150 palenques were installed and another 174 were rehabilitated.

Rubí Joven highlighted that in 2024 there was a recovery in coffee farming in Puebla, for which 279.8 million pesos were allocated.

In addition, he said that all the resources that were allocated to the rural sector were to strengthen the actions that were already in place, promoting strategic projects such as mezcal agave, coffee growing and the modernization of the countryside, among others.

Also, the head of the Rural Development Secretariat in Puebla highlighted that they provided support to 21,000 farmers from 145 municipalities whose crops were affected by climate contingencies.
