The Government of President Gabriel Boric appointed the lawyer without knowledge in the media and television Mauricio Munoz Gutierrez (PS) as the new president of the National Television Council (CNTV).
The appointment of the Executive comes after the noisy departure of the former president of the CNTV, Faride Zerán, who resigned from the position on March 6 after various frictions with the rest of the directors. “I decided to submit my resignation because under the current conditions my contribution to the organization is very limited,” she said.

Muñoz (56), who arrives with the mission of building bridges of consensus among the entire council, is considered close to the president of the Socialist Party, Paulina Vodanovic, and also responds to another strong letter from the party, Álvaro Elizalde .
From his new position, he will have the responsibility of leading the CNTV at a time marked by a new constituent process, which is why he will have to make decisions about the television broadcast of the new proposal, as well as the candidates who want to integrate the Constitutional Council.
In the professional field, he is a lawyer from the University of Chile and worked as a presidential advisor for public policies in both governments of former President Michelle Bachelet.
Likewise, he has been a collaborator in the ministries of Labor, Education and the General Secretariat of Government in various governments. Between 2000 and 2005 he worked as legislative and content adviser in the Ministry of the General Secretariat of the Presidency.
He had steps in the Comptroller General of the Republic and in the Municipality of La Cisterna, where he served as councilor of the commune between 2004 and 2008. He was legal director of the Municipality of Cerrillos and since 2021 he has been working in San Bernardo.
In November 2022, he was appointed by the mayor of San Bernardo, Christopher White, as the new General Secretary of the municipality’s Municipal Education and Health Corporation. Before assuming said position, Muñoz worked as director of the Legal Department of the Municipal Corporation of Education and Health of San Bernardo.
Internal sources of the National Television Council celebrate the arrival of Muñoz, since –according to what they denounce-, working with Zerán was very complex, given the climate of polarization existing within the internal. He will assume the position from next April 1.
