The Public Ministry expressed its concern about the leak of intelligence data regarding the case involving Colorado deputy Erico Galeano.
With regard to the dissemination in the media of issues related to the case called A Ultranza Py, referring to deputy Erico Galeano, and that was published before the financial intelligence report of Seprelad was sent to the Public Ministry, the Specialized Unit of the Fight against Drug Trafficking of the Prosecutor’s Office made some clarifications.
Last Friday, March 4, 2022, the intervening tax agents sent to the Economic Crimes and Anti-Corruption Unit (UDEA) the records related to the property located in Acqua Village and the transaction involving the aforementioned official, in order for it to be evaluated and investigated within the competence of the UDEA in view of his status as a public official, this being the product of the investigation of the fiscal agents of the operation and that is not related to the Seprelad report received today.
Likewise, the facts related to Mr. Joaquin Roa, former minister of the SEN, were forwarded.
It also clarifies that the receipt of the financial intelligence report, whose data was disseminated in the mass media, was accessed by the prosecutors, through formal means, only yesterday morning, Tuesday, and considering that it only refers to the aforementioned official and not to persons investigated in the main case, said Seprelad report was also forwarded to the UDEA.
Currently, both the note sent by the Specialized Unit against Drug Trafficking to the UDEA and the Financial Intelligence Report accessed from the Seprelad platform are under technical analysis and in process, by the Directorate of Economic Crimes.
On the other hand, the prosecutors of the Specialized Unit for the Fight against Drug Trafficking indicate their concern about the leaking of data and intelligence reports from Seprelad, which are part of ongoing investigations or could be part of future investigations, and that the cases be put at risk by their dissemination, also remembering their confidential nature and that it must be protected for the success of any criminal investigation.
Therefore, strict adherence to the regulations and measures regarding the preparation, handling and treatment of financial intelligence reports is encouraged for their correct effectiveness in the Fight against Money Laundering, Organized Crime and Drug Trafficking.
