The Prosecutor's Office asks for 35 years in prison against Alejandro Toledo for section IV of the Interoceanic

The Lava Jato special team filed a third criminal accusation against the fugitive former president this time for favoring the Intersur consortium with the concession of section IV of the Interoceanic highway in exchange for alleged bribes.

The Prosecutor’s Office requires the Judiciary to impose 35 years in prison against the former head of state, accused in this process of collusion and money laundering, who faces an extradition process from the United States.

The accusation extends to four other people, including the former head of presidential security Avraham Dan On and the former representative of the Camargo Correa company, Marcos De Moura Wanderley.

For Dan On, 16 years and 8 months in prison are requested, while for De Moura Wanderley, 29 years in prison are requested.

The former superintendent of Odebrecht in Peru, Jorge Barata, told the Public Ministry that he coordinated with Toledo so that this tender is won by the consortium that included the Brazilian Camargo Correa.

Prosecutors also require that this last construction company be dissolved and pay a fine of more than US$553 million. The accusation control will begin this December 27.

Tax sources told Peru21 that the team led by prosecutor Rafael Vela will require a third extradition request against the former president, and for this reason his preventive detention was requested.

Two other accusations already fall on Alejandro Toledo: for receiving US$35 million in bribes from Odebrecht for the award of sections II and III, and for acquiring properties with the illicit money provided by the Brazilian company.

In the case of purchase of goods, former first lady Eliane Karp is included, who, like her husband, is charged with the crime of money laundering.

The US justice has already approved the repatriation of Toledo, it only remains to wait for the decision of the State Department of that country that must evaluate the ratification of that judicial ruling.
