The Public Ministry of Peru requested this Tuesday that Justice order an extension to 36 months of the preventive detention imposed, although for another reason, on former President Pedro Castillo, dismissed less than three months ago by Congress.
It was requested by one of the prosecutors specializing in crimes committed by public officials, in a case in which two former ministers are also being investigated, the Public Ministry reported on Twitter.
“The requirement of preventive detention for 36 months corresponds to the criminal process for the crimes of criminal organization, collusion and influence peddling”, explained the agency in the message.
The prosecution maintains that Castillo directed a network of irregular concession of public works contracts and money laundering made up of relatives and political collaborators.according to the AFP news agency.

The request for preventive detention also reaches Juan Silva and Geiner Alvaradowho were their Ministers of Transport and Communications and of Housing, respectively.
The request came after Congress authorized the prosecution to prosecute the former president and former ministers.
Castillo has been imprisoned in a prison in Lima since December 7, the day Congress dismissed him hours after he announced the dissolution of parliament and the formation of an exceptional government with suppression of constitutional guarantees.
For this reason, he was placed in pretrial detention for 18 months while he is being investigated for the crime of rebellion.
