In the 1990s it was suspected that wheat would disappear from Uruguay because given Argentina’s efficiency, within the framework of a common market, it would be better to focus on something else. Those were times when the productivity of the crop in Uruguay was certainly difficult compared to that of the “breadbasket of the world”.
