The shortlist to choose who will be the new manager of the National Federation of Coffee Growers “does not represent the coffee bases”, that is why they ask to veto it, this has delayed the election of the new manager. Among the annoyances, there is the “little female quota” among the applicants.
News Colombia.
The National Committee of Coffee Growers already has the final list of candidates for the position of general manager of the National Federation of Coffee Growers, FNC, however, the country’s coffee growers do not feel represented and the process continues to be delayed.
The association has some 350,000 members, and the dilemma is which Colombian coffee block will have more weight in this process.
The coffee sector is one of the most important in the national economy. Families from 15 departments are dedicated to producing and exporting this grain to contribute to the development of the regions.
The shortlist was made up of three candidates, German Alberto Bahamón Jaramillo, Sandra Morelli Rico and Santiago Pardo Salguero.
However, the same Minister of Finance, questioned “the low female quota”, there is only Moreli.
Now, the current shortlist will be presented next Thursday, April 27, before the National Congress of Coffee Growers, which, as the highest instance of union deliberation, will choose the replacement for Roberto Vélez Vallejo.
However, it is not clear if with the annoyance that there is in the guild, this short list remains like this or it is modified.

“Each of the shortlisted candidates has the professional and personal experience and skills necessary to lead the most important agricultural union in the country,” the National Federation of Coffee Growers said in its statement.
Between March 27 and April 14, the candidates will be presenting their proposals and programs to the 15 departmental committees of coffee growers.
Discontent among coffee growers and they ask to veto the list
Since 1927 Colombian coffee growers came together in order to create an organization that would represent them nationally and internationally.
It should be noted that the federation is non-profit and is not affiliated with any political party.
The National Federation of Coffee Growers groups 546 thousand producer families in Colombia, the vast majority are small and medium producers.
Made up of 15 departmental committees, they gather the union from all Colombian territory.
Today, it is precisely that population of coffee growers that is asking the government of Gustavo Petro to veto the final list, since they do not feel represented.
They do not agree, the way in which the election process has been carried out, since they assure that it has not been the most transparent.
That is why, during these weeks, several demonstrations have been witnessed by coffee growers in the country. They are already more than 2 months in those crises.

“Given the social impact it generates in the country, the Coffee Congress cannot be wrong in the election of the manager,” says Paula Botero, coffee maker.
Although the Federation manages a public fund, the National Coffee Fund is a private union, the Minister of Finance on duty, has the power to vote in the National Committee.
