The tournament that will take place in Bogotá at the Compensar recreational and sports complex, from October 10 to 14, counts for this year with the motto, “Let’s walk together for the Cup of Faith.”

Its organizers have highlighted that this event seeks to “promote priestly fraternity, solidarity, healthy coexistence and a close encounter between the church and the parishioners, transmitting Christ through sport.”

As in previous editions, the only requirement to participate in the tournament is to be a priest linked to one of the ecclesiastical jurisdictions of the country -or other countries-, although this requirement does not apply to technical directors.

The teams registered for the tournament are from the following ecclesiastical jurisdictions: The Archdioceses of Bogotá, Barranquilla, Bucaramanga, Cartagena, Ibagué, Medellín, Popayán, Santa Fe de Antioquia and Villavicencio; the Dioceses of Arauca, Cúcuta, Duitama – Sogamoso, Facatativá, Garzón, Girardot, Ipiales, Montería, Socorro and San Gil, Sonsón Rionegro, Pasto, Valledupar, Zipaquirá; the Apostolic Vicariate of Guapi; and the Archdiocese of Guadalajara – Mexico. Also joining the Arauca team will be ten priests from the Archdiocese of Quito.

Evangelize through sport

For the Colombian Church, the Cup of Faith has become a visible sign of priestly ministry and evangelization through sports. As a result of this, there are the versions that have been held of the championship in Bogotá (2013, 2015 and 2016), in Cali (2014), in Cúcuta (2018) and in Chiquinquirá (2019) with the participation of some 2,800 priests, in total. .
