Cali will be the city with the highest price.
News Colombia.
The Energy and Gas Regulatory Commission (Creg) confirmed this Friday, November 29, an increase in the price of a gallon of ACPM.
With this adjustment, the average price of diesel in Colombia will be $10,248, complying with the agreement between the national government and the transport unions.
This increase is part of a gradual plan that seeks to level the price of ACPM with the international price, as a strategy to reduce the deficit of the Fuel Price Stabilization Fund (FEPC), which in 2022 reached $36.7 billion.
The gallon of ACPM at service stations has registered two adjustments this year: $400 on September 7 and another $400 that will apply from this Sunday, December 1.
ACPM prices by city
Starting December 1, the main cities in the country will have the following rates per gallon of ACPM:
- Bogota DC: $10,556
- Medellin: $10,561
- Cali: $10,677
- Barranquilla: $10,244
- Cartagena: $10,208
- Hunting: $10,458
- Bucaramanga: $10,309
- Villavicencio: $10,656
- Pereira: $10,619
- Manizales: $10,609
- Ibagué: $10,541
- Grass: $9,548
- Cucuta: $8,241
Cali will be the city with the highest price, while Cúcuta will have the lowest rate thanks to its special regime.
Impact and agreements with transporters
The adjustment in the ACPM price occurred after agreements with the cargo and passenger transport unions in September, avoiding a prolonged strike in the sector.
The pact established an increase of $800 by the end of 2024, divided into two stages.
In addition, the Government has differentiated diesel prices into two segments:
- General price: Applies to consumers at service stations.
- Large consumers: For those who purchase more than 20,000 gallons per month, who already pay the full international rate according to a decree in force since June 2024.
Regional comparison by country
Despite the increase, Colombia continues to be one of the countries with the lowest ACPM prices in Latin America. According to the Ministry of Finance, diesel prices in the region, converted to Colombian pesos, are as follows:
- Ecuador: $7,928
- Bolivia: $8,950
- Colombia: $10,248
- Panama: $13,491
- Peru: $14,784
- Chile: $16,115
- Brazil: $17,241
- Costa Rica: $18,500
- Uruguay: $19,551
- Mexico: $20,906
Reasons behind the adjustment
The increase in the price of ACPM responds to the need to stabilize public finances. In 2023, the FEPC deficit amounted to $20 billion, of which $15.2 billion corresponded to diesel.
With this adjustment, the Government seeks to avoid allocating excessive resources that could be used in other sectors, such as infrastructure or social programs.
The increases will continue to be gradual, with a pending adjustment of $5,200 to align the price with the international cost of the fuel.
