The Mexican government will rule on the election in the United States until the electoral authorities of that country conclude the process, said President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.

The day before the election, including the presidential one, is held in the United States, the president commented that just as former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador did four years ago, she will wait to make a statement until the result is published.

We are going to see what happens tomorrow (today), who gets the majority, if there is a result tomorrow or later, and we are going to demonstrate until the entire electoral process in the United States is finished. This is how it should be, this is what former President López Obrador did at the time, and it is the same attitude that the Mexican government should take..

After the US electoral process, held on November 3, 2020, in which Joe Biden and Donald Trump competed, López Obrador waited until the conclusion, and on December 15 of that year he congratulated Biden on his victory.

Yesterday morning, at the National Palace, the President was asked about the issue of the US election, which is being held today, to which she asserted that her government will respect the people’s decision and will work together with whoever wins ( be it Kamala Harris or Donald Trump).

Once the US electoral institutions make their decision regarding the next president of the United States, we will be in contact with whoever is elected, he stressed.

He emphasized that collaboration will continue on issues on the bilateral agenda, from migration issues; of fentanyl, which is an important issue for the United States for humanitarian reasons; but also other important ones, such as arms trafficking to Mexico, and those of the commercial relationship with the rest of the American continent..

Sheinbaum highlighted that his government also carries out important work with businessmen, “and we want to strengthen it even more, to show the importance of the trade agreement for the United States; The T-MEC not only benefits Mexico, but also very importantly the United States and Canada (…) The treaty complements us, there is no competition between our countries.”

Foreign service

On the other hand, when asked what her criteria will be for choosing the diplomats who will represent Mexico in other nations, the president stated that, first of all, it will be based on career service abroad, but, on the other hand, will propose personalities who can be appointed to these positions.

A few days ago, the President stated that the current ambassadors of Mexico would initially remain in their positions and that Foreign Minister Juan Ramón de la Fuente will make an assessment for the appointments; Likewise, he guaranteed that the ambassador to the United States, Esteban Moctezuma, will remain in that work.
