President Alberto Fernández signed on Friday two projects for the areas of health and infrastructure with authorities from the European Investment Bank (EIB), officials from the European Union and the Argentine embassy before that international organization, and highlighted the one that provides support to the Integral of the Salado River Basin so that “the province of Buenos Aires can finish this work and conclude with a martyrdom for almost a million producers”.

“It is a problem that Argentina has been dragging for years,” said the Head of State in the House of Government after the signing of the EIB support project for the Comprehensive Management of the Salado River Basin, in the province of Buenos Aires, and said that “in a few years I will remember that I saw the end of the problem.

In this context, he specified that “it is a very important work that has to do with Argentine production” and stated that “it is more development, more foreign currency income, all things that Argentina needs.”

From the signing of the agreement, the province of Buenos Aires will receive financing from the EIB for a total of 110 million dollars, it was officially reported.

It is a relevant investment, Fernandez considered, so that “the province of Buenos Aires can finish this work and conclude with a martyrdom for almost a million producers.”

The president recalled that it is a work that had been promoted since the governorship of Antonio Cafiero in the province of Buenos Aires, but then had been relegated.

In addition, this project will be “guaranteed by the national government. Its objective is to improve protection against flooding, and will directly benefit the 84,527 inhabitants of the districts usually affected by the river’s layout,” official sources reported.

EIB Vice President Ricardo Mourinho Félix was in charge of signing the agreement with local officials.

“Today is a very special day in which the government has announced an agreement at the technical level with the International Monetary Fund”, said Mourinho Félix and highlighted Argentina as a “partner of the European Union”.

In turn, the EIB representatives signed, together with the Argentine officials, a project to support the Strategic Plan for Vaccination against Covid-19.

The President of the Nation considered that it is a contribution to maintain and “improve the level of immunization” of Argentines, in a context that indicates that vaccination against Covid-19 will be maintained “for a long time.”

In this way, Argentina “will have a credit line from the EIB for 20 years for 100 million dollars, and will aim to expand the acquisition of doses to reduce morbidity, mortality and the socioeconomic impact caused by the disease in the country. The initiative will reach between 4 and 8 million people, in addition to generating an indirect benefit for the rest of the population,” official sources indicated.

The president was accompanied by the Secretary for Strategic Affairs, Gustavo Béliz, the ambassadors of the European Union to Argentina, Amador Sánchez Rico, and of Argentina to the EU, Pablo Grinspun; and other national and provincial officials.
