Ocosingo, Chis., President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) recalled yesterday that 28 years ago the Zapatista Army of National Liberation (EZLN) took up arms. He stated: we can feel satisfied because even with that pain we can now meet in Ocosingo in peace, because peace is the fruit of justice.

Participating after noon in the inauguration of a branch of the Banco del Bienestar, he spoke that in the first days of January 1994, in this municipality, where the EZLN was founded on November 17, 1983, there was resistance and they gave the order at that time to confront it and there was a confrontation in the market.

He recalled that then, a Zapatista mortally wounded in that confrontation was interviewed. They asked him what he was fighting for, and he said it was for justice and that he was willing to give his life for that. And he knew that he was going to die, but he gave his life for justice, for others. That should never be forgotten, never forget those who fight and give their lives for justice.

Accompanied by the Morenista governor, Rutilio Escandón Cadenas, and the secretaries of Welfare, Ariadna Montiel, and of National Defense, Luis Cresencio Sandoval, among other officials, he maintained that violence should not be chosen in the search for justice. He added that today Wellness programs allow us to live in peace.

AMLO, who began a work tour of the state on Friday, trusted that they are already on their way the social programs promoted by his government and that it is a matter of giving them continuity, expanding them, strengthening them, consolidating them, so that when I hand over the Presidency, whoever arrives, man or woman, whoever replaces me, has to continue with all the programs.

In the afternoon, in San Cristóbal, where he slept on Friday, the president delivered the reconstruction works of the temple and former convent of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, as well as the Cathedral, which were damaged by the earthquake of September 7, 2017.

He expressed feeling very happy to see that the temple and the cathedral will reopen. We are all satisfied and grateful to the Bishop of San Cristóbal (Rodrigo Aguilar Martínez) for his understanding and support, and to all the Catholic faithful who will be able to come to mass and celebrate in the historic cathedral of San Cristóbal. To all, congratulations and thank you very much.

In a ceremony that was also attended by Governor Escandón, as well as the director of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), Diego Prieto Hernández, and Bishop Aguilar Martínez, he recalled that in 2015 he visited Rome, where he met with Pope Francis. , to whom he presented a medal from Fray Bartolomé de las Casas, who, he specified, was defender of indigenous peoples in times when there was much exploitation and slavery. That is why he is remembered with affection and affection in Chiapas, in Mexico and in the world..
