President Alberto Fernandez considered that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) “should make a profound self-criticism about his permanent policy” and evaluated that the understanding that Argentina reached with the organization “guarantees that there will be no reduction in social investment or in public works.”

“The IMF has to make a much deeper criticism, not only to what happened in Argentina, but to its permanent policy“Fernández pointed out in an interview he offered to the Russia Today (RT) channel, after the announcement of the agreement with the global financial entity.

The head of state affirmed that the deal with the IMF on the debt of 44,000 million dollars taken by former president Mauricio Macri in 2018 constitutes “a very important step to continue thinking about the future.”

“The criticism he made about how he granted the credit to Argentina back in 2018 is not enough, because it is a credit that has no technical rationality, even thought of from the Washington Consensus”

The president pointed out that the IMF “has brought plans to countries that ended up moving and shocking entire societies and has to review those logics”.

“The criticism he made about how he granted the credit to Argentina back in 2018 is not enough, because it is a credit that does not have any technical rationality, even thought of from the Washington Consensus,” he stated.

Fernandez noted that Argentina reached “the best possible agreement” in relation to a debt that his administration did not generate.

“Being indebted to the International Monetary Fund is not good and, therefore, what one has to deal with this situation is to find a way to pay without this becoming an excessive sacrifice of the people or of a people and I think we have achieved that,” he stated.

In addition, he was hopeful about the possibility that Argentina “has a growth process” that allows it to cope with the agreement for this debt “with more peace of mind.”

“The Argentine people are immensely grateful to the Russian people and the Russian government, which definitely helped us when few helped us”

He also reiterated that the agreement it does not contemplate a pension or labor reform nor does it relegate social spending and investment in public works.

Regarding the opposition of Together for Change, Fernandez noted that its leaders should assume that their government is “trying to solve a problem that they created”.

Regarding current affairs in Latin America, the President relativized the fact that the region is undergoing a process of change, indicating that there are countries where the right won and others in which leaders who seemed to have “radicalized” positions assumed moderate positions at the time to rule

In this sense, he cited the case of the president of Peru, Pedro Castillo, and stressed: “It seems to me that the people choose each one at the juncture of what they believe is best.”

Fernández, who will undertake an official trip to Russia next week, referred to the relationship that Argentina maintains with the European country, and highlighted the strategic agreements that were signed in 2015.

What’s more valued how Moscow collaborated with Argentina during the coronavirus pandemic with the provision of the Sputnik V vaccine.

“The Argentine people are immensely grateful to the Russian people and the Russian government, which definitely helped us when few helped us,” he said.

Fernández assured that Sputnik V is “a high-quality vaccine” and that he has three doses in his body and “the truth is that the results have been more than good, much more than good.”

For this reason, he pointed out that the G-20 and the World Health Organization (WHO) should approve this drug.
