President Alberto Fernandez arrived on Friday afternoon camp set up in the San Miguel area, in the north center of Corrientes, to tour the regions affected by forest fireswhich have already devastated more than 900,000 hectares, reported official sources.
The head of state arrived by helicopter from the city of Posadas, accompanied by the interior ministers, Eduardo “Wado” de Pedro; of security, Hannibal Fernandez; Environment and Sustainable Development, Juan Cabandie; and Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Julian Dominguez.
He is also accompanied by the Secretary of Environmental Control and Monitoring, Sergio Federovsky; the Secretary of Climate Change, Cecilia Nicolini; the head of the National Bank, Edward Hecker; and the Secretary General of the Presidency, Julius Vitobello.
Fernández plans to greet the formation of brigade members who are in the camp and then tour the areas affected by the fires.
The head of state had landed in the capital of Misiones after noon and there he boarded the helicopter, accompanied by the governor of Corrientes, Gustavo Valdesto go to the camp set up in the San Miguel area.
That camp was installed in a rural school of the Corrientes locality of San Miguel, which A week ago it became the command center and operational base of a force made up of national agencies, public companies and specialized teams from half a dozen provinces that fight forest fires.
A few days ago, the authorities of the “Ñanderoga” Agricultural Family School, located on Route 118 between the towns of San Miguel and Loreto, in the heart of the area affected by the fires, opened the doors to the National Service team Fire Management (SMNF) headed by its director, Alberto Seufferheld, who established a base to organize the fight against the flames.
There was also deployed Ministry of Defense team led by the Undersecretary for Emergency Coordination, Roberto Cortialong with members of different Army and Air Force units who added telecommunications equipment, tanks, ground vehicles and helicopters to the device.
Fernández is expected to fly over the affected areas by helicopter together with the governor of Corrientes, Gustavo Valdés. These are the departments of Concepción III, San Miguel, Curuzú Cuatiá, Ituzaingó, Santo Tomé, Loreto, Virasoro, Alvear, Carlos Pellegrini and Corrientes capital.
