The Presidency of the Republic decided to make changes in the custody of Luis Lacalle Pou after the president himself ordered a review of the records of all the members of the Presidential Security Service (SSP). A group was placed in other dependencies of the State while it is investigated more in depth.
The verification of the files was sent after the scandal broke out due to Alexander Astesianthe head of custody who was charged with prison for being involved in a criminal association dedicated to the sale of fake passports to persons of Russian nationality.
Now they found everything
Apart from Astesiano, several other custodians or former custodians have police or investigative notes, which were only now warned by the Presidency.
According to a report of Radio Sarandi of 2021, the second in command -today promoted to Astesiano’s place-, Jorge Luis Borges, was part of a group of policemen “investigated for various crimes such as extortion, deprivation of liberty and bribes”.
Borges was the only one in the group of uniformed men who was not questioned because, when the prosecution took place, he was on leave. Although he does not have a firm police record, he has several inquiries for different reasons.
Another police officer who is part of the president’s custody is one with the last name Valenzuela, who worked as an officer in the investigation areas of the Montevideo Police, in zone IV. In his report, Informative Sarandi says he was removed from his position after a “confusing” episode in which he would have been seen on a security camera putting an object in a pocket in a store, when he attended an emergency call with other colleagues due to a robbery. The others were investigated for allegedly having appropriated money from the robbery.
The media added that an urgent investigation was initiated in 2018, with the knowledge of the Prosecutor’s Office. The process passed into the hands of the Directorate of Internal Affairs, but the trail of the file was lost there. Valenzuela was also questioned on several occasions for domestic violence, the radio said at the time.
