In what seems to be an endless thread that is constantly being pulled, and the end is not in sight, the case of Alejandro Astesiano now reveals that in the Presidency of the Republic there is no record of the people that the former presidential custodian received in the Executive Tower.
“There are no records of people who visited the Executive Tower to meet with Mr. Alejandro Astesiano,” the letter states, adding that the “total list of income to said building was sent to the 12th turn of the Flagrancia Criminal Prosecutor’s Office, and , therefore, it is covered by the reserve”, reads a request for information made by the newspaper The Observer and answered in the last hours.
Astesiano’s office
The former head of presidential custody, and who also worked for former president Luis Alberto Lacalle Herrera, coordinated meetings with his “clients” on the fourth floor of the Executive Tower, the headquarters of the Uruguayan Executive Branch.
The gang in which Astesiano operated sold false passports issued after the issuance of apocryphal documents in which older adults, admitted to nursing homes, “recognized” people of Russian nationality as children or grandchildren. Thus, they obtained Uruguayan nationalization.
He also met in Torre Ejecutiva with his accomplices, a Russian who worked as a document processor, and a notary public who did all the legal and registry procedures and paperwork.
The false birth certificates that were generated were registered in Montevideo, Minas, Río Negro and other localities in the country, in the Civil Registry of the Ministry of Public Education, to later make the arrangements before the National Directorate of Civil Identification (DNIC).
