Through a statement, the different institutions of the Potosi press declared this Saturday in emergency in the face of possible “persecution attempts”, also asked the workers of the union to unite against what they described as “arbitration attacks” and in defense of freedom of expression.
In the first point of this statement, they assure: “We declare ourselves in a state of emergency and alert to any attempt to persecute our fellow press. We will not allow any type of outrage or intention to muzzle the Potosi press ”.
It also has eight other points in which it also calls “all workers of the country’s press, journalists and professionals in social communication to unify efforts against possible arbitrary attacks” and to protect freedom of expression.
Likewise, they request the people of Potosí to protect the Constitutional Rights of access to information, communication and the press.

According to what was expressed by these institutions, this pronouncement came as a result of “the latest events, the strong police contingent deployed in our city and any possibility of political persecution of comrades.”
The workers of the Potosí press consider in the same document that any act that goes against agreements and treaties on freedom of expression, communication and information “will be considered crimes against constitutional guarantees and transgression of International Law and will be denounced” .
The institutions that signed this statement are the Association of Journalists of Potosí, the Union Federation of Press Workers of Potosí, Aboter (Bolivian Association of Television Broadcasters) and the Departmental College of Professionals in Social Communication of Potosí.
Journalists made this statement, after last Thursday during a police operation, the former civic leader of this department Marco Antonio Pumari was apprehended.
