In the last few hours, President-elect Gustavo Petro confirmed that LLuis Carlos Reyes will be the director of the Directorate of National Taxes and Customs (Dian).

Reyes has extensive experience in the public sector. Until now, he worked as a professor at the Javeriana University and director of the Tax Observatory of this institution, of which he has been a co-founder since 2017.
He’s Ph.D. and M.A. in Economics from Michigan State University and historian and economist at Florida International University.
In his career he has been part of the Icfes advisory committee (2015-2016), economist at the Federal Communications Commission (2012-2013), visiting professor of economics at Grand Valley State University (2010-2012) and instructor at the University of the State of Michigan (2007-2010)
Reyes also has knowledge in Italian and French. And he has developed research in the fields of applied microeconomics, development economics and public economics.
Among the positions that he has shown previously, are his criticisms against the days without VAT, which he has described as regressive and with few economic benefits. “They are the kind of policy that generates headlines and attention, even among those who are not usually thinking about how tax measures affect ordinary people,” he wrote about it.
