Pope Francis sent a letter to the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo Association for the death of the president of that entity, Hebe de Bonafini, and expressed that he wants to be “close to all the people who mourn his departure”.
In the letter, dated yesterday in Santa Marta and released this Monday by the organization, the Supreme Pontiff affirmed that he accompanies Bonafini “with prayer”, “asking the Lord to give him eternal rest and not allow all the good to be lost done”.
In the text, headed with “Dear Mothers”, Francisco expressed: “In this moment of sorrow for the death of Hebe de Bonafini, mother of the square, I want to be close to you and to all the people who mourn her departure. He knew how to transform his life, like you, marked by the pain of his disappeared sons and daughters in a tireless search for the defense of the rights of the most marginalized and invisible”.
“I remember, in the meeting we had in the Vatican, the passion that he transmitted to me for wanting to give a voice to those who did not have it. His bravery and courage, at times where silence reigned, promoted and then kept alive the search for truth, memory and justice,” the Pope recalled.
For Francisco, it was a “quest that led her weekly to march so that oblivion does not take over the streets and of history and, the commitment to the other, was the best word and antidote against the atrocities that were suffered”.
“In this, her last march, we accompany her with prayer asking the Lord to give her eternal rest and not allow all the good done to be lost; and, to you, comfort and accompany you to continue being the Mothers of Memory “, the Pope said when addressing the members of the association.
And he closed the letter: “I pray for you; please, do not forget to pray for me. May Jesus bless you and the Holy Virgin take care of you.”
Bonafini died on Sunday at the age of 93 in the city of La Plata, and the Government decreed three days of national mourning
