The recovery of Pope Francis, operated this week for a hernia abdominal pain, continues its “usual course,” his medical team reported on Sunday in a brief statement.
The Argentine pontiff does not have a fever and performed his respiratory physiotherapy. After the Angelus prayer, he had lunch with those who assist him in these days of convalescence, doctors, nurses and security personnel, according to the same source.
Francisco, 86, underwent surgery on Wednesday under general anesthesia to remove adhesions in his abdominal wall, which caused him pain, a consequence of his colon operation in July 2021.
The pontiff remains for the moment on the tenth floor of the Gemelli center, known as “the hospital of the popes”, in the same room where John Paul II was admitted numerous times.
Their hearings were annulled until June 18.
Despite his repeated health problems, Francisco maintains a tight schedule, which sometimes includes a dozen interviews in the same morning.
His fragile health does not prevent him from traveling either and in the coming months he has several trips planned: a visit to Portugal at the beginning of August, a tour to Mongolia the following month and a mass mass in Marseille, in the south of France, on September 23.
