Pope Francis recovers satisfactorily after being operated this Wednesday of a laparotomy and plastic surgery of the abdominal wall with a prosthesis.
At the edge of 7:00 p.m. (Rome time) this Thursday, the director of the Holy See Press Office, Matteo Bruni, reported that the pontiff had spent a day of rest.
He has been fed a liquid diet and his hemodynamic and respiratory parameters are stable, reported the medical personnel who are following Francisco’s postoperative period.

Bruni specified that he had a quiet night, managing to rest for a long time. “Routine checkups are good,” he added in a statement.
Normally, it takes between five and seven days for a full recovery, although in the case of the Pope it will depend a lot on his physical strength. The doctor who operated on him, Sergio Alfieri, ruled out any other type of pathology. Both the one in the colon and the current one are “benign,” he explained.
The director of the Holy See’s press office said that the pope is informed of the messages of closeness and affection that have reached him in recent hours and expressed his gratitude, while asking that they continue to pray for him.
He was moved by the message from the family of little Miguel Ángel, baptized by Pope Francis on March 31 during his visit to the hospital’s pediatric neurosurgery and oncology floors, who sent him a poster wishing him a speedy recovery.
Presidents of nations, of Episcopal Conferences, political and cultural representatives, and faithful from all over the world have sent messages of encouragement.
From Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel expressed his “affection and wishes for a speedy recovery,” in addition to his “solidarity, admiration, and respect.”

In a recent interview with the AP agency, Francisco revealed that he was suffering from diverticula again, the problem for which he had to undergo surgery and had a small part of his colon removed, but that he was in good health.
Francisco underwent surgery at this Roman hospital on July 4, 2021 and was discharged after 10 days, followed by a slow recovery.
The Pope also has problems with his right knee, which forces him to use a cane or a wheelchair. He has assured on several occasions that he does not want to operate.
