The Pope receives a shirt from his favorite player… and it’s not Messi!

Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham visited Vatican City last week and during the visit, presented the Pope with a Manchester United jersey signed by a former Ajax player.

He Pope Franciscofan of San Lorenzo and the Argentine national team, has always declared his admiration for Leo Messi. However, it doesn’t seem like the former Barça player, today at PSG, is his favorite footballer, according to information from ‘The Athletic’.

Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham visited Vatican City last week. During the visit, the Pope received a Manchester United shirt signed by a former Ajax player…Lisandro Martínez! According to ‘The Athletic’ journalist Jamie Whitwell, his Holiness had previously informed Burnham that Martinez is his favorite player. Thus, at Old Trafford they responded to the Pope’s statement by giving Burnham a signed shirt.
