A Nicaraguan soccer player almost missed the qualifying match of the 2026 World Cup this Monday in front of Costa Rica due to a debt for alimony for which the police came looking for him in the locker room of the National Stadium in San José. The general secretary of the Costa Rican Football Federation (FCRF), Gustavo Araya, explained to journalists the situation and the presence of the Public Force in the stadium, but said that he would not give more details since the case involves a minor.

The identity of the Nicaraguan soccer player was not revealed either, but he will be able to play the game, although it is possible that he will have to pay the debt at the end of the match to avoid being arrested. Costa Rica received Nicaragua in a match corresponding to the fourth day of the final phase of the Concacaf qualifying round for the World Cup to be organized by the United States, Canada and Mexico. The result was 4-1.
