The Ministry of Agrarian Development and the Regional Government of Piura They signed two agreements for the execution of the Alto Piura Project and the strengthening of the Poechos reservoir. The specialist in Public Management, Juana Huaco, stated that this demonstrates the inability of the regional government, while the dean of the College of Engineers said that he only hopes that the execution is completed and not just an announcement.

Yesterday, during the VI Regional Council of State, which was attended by the President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, the Minister of Agriculture, Ángel Manero and Governor Luis Neyra, they signed two agreements.
The first is for the transfer of the Special Irrigation and Hydroenergy Project of Alto Piura and the second for the strengthening of the Poechos reservoir, which will ensure the irrigation of more than 170,000 hectares in the region.
Given this announcement, specialist Juana Huaco hopes that the Central Government will prioritize this project that has been pending for years in the Piura region. However, he said that the return of this megaproject to the National Government is due to the lack of capacity of GORE officials.
“That shows us that we do not have that management capacity to do it. We feel poorly represented because it has returned to centralism, when we advocate for decentralization, but since we do not give results, we have no other choice. If you are going to resume it, you should take it as a priority because it is an emergency, we have a water problem and we cannot continue waiting,” Huaco said.
The dean of the College of Engineers pointed out that the infrastructure gap in Piura is quite large and what has been subscribed is almost nothing, which is why he hopes that these projects will be executed in response to the needs of the population. “In principle, let’s hope it comes to fruition and it’s not a scam, guys,” he emphasized.
