This Sunday, January 12, the Plaza de la Aduana will be the setting for the closing concert of the XIX Cartagena Music Festivalwhich will take place at 7 pm and will have free admission. The Cartagena Symphony Orchestradirected by Paola Ávila, will be in charge of putting the finishing touch to this edition of the festival with the presentation entitled The Tales of the Sea.

The event will feature the participation of prominent artists such as the violinist Ana María Valderramathe mezzo-soprano Paola Leguizamonthe soprano Laura Gomezthe tenors Antonio Gandía and Hans Mogollónthe basso Roberto Abbondanza and the baritone Juan David González.
Together they will perform a repertoire that includes works by Spanish composers such as Manuel de Falla and Georges Bizetas well as Colombian compositions adapted for symphonic format, including Mi Buenaventura by Petronio Álvarez, Tolú by Lucho Bermúdez and Cali pachanguero by Jairo Varela.
This concert will be closing of the 2024 season of the Cartagena Symphony Orchestra, whose main theme this year was Tales from the Sea. The orchestra, which has established itself as an educational and cultural project in the city, has performed during the year in concerts in various venues such as the Adolfo Mejía Theater and the Bicentenario Park, as well as educational presentations for young people in musical training.

The event has the support of several institutions and companies, including the Mayor’s Office of Cartagena de Indias, the Institute of Heritage and Culture of Cartagena de Indias, Corpoturismo, RCN ChannelDistoyota Industrial Equipment, Porsche, Esenttia and Ecopetrol. Attendees will be able to enter the Customs Square from 6 p.m. through two authorized points: Plaza San Pedro and Plaza de los Coches.
The Cartagena Symphony Orchestra, born in 2016 as an initiative of the Salvi Foundation and the Puerto de Cartagena Foundation, has grown and consolidated its presence as a stable group since 2020. This project, supported by the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Knowledge, aims to promote musical education in the city and give visibility to young local musicians.
