“Alma”, mascot of the Women’s Copa América.

The national team tournament will take place in our country.

Colombia News.

The Copa América Femenina 2022, a Conmebol soccer tournament, will be held in Colombia between July 8 and 30.

The governing body of South American soccer announced yesterday in Paraguay how the two groups will be made up.

Colombia heads Group A together with Chile, Ecuador, Paraguay and Bolivia. The “B” is made up of Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Peru and Venezuela.

It was also shown what will be the mascot of the sporting event: The dog “Alma”, a figure that has caused controversy on social networks.

This is because in Colombia and other Latin American countries, the word “bitch” is often misused to derogatorily offend women.

However, its natural meaning is that of a female dog.

Comments

Although apparently, the participating teams did not find it “offensive” that the mascot is “a dog”, on Twitter, users have been somewhat annoyed.

Both women and men have wondered if Conmebol analyzed this detail when preparing the figure that represents the soccer event.

It is worth noting that the vast majority of opinionators do not see a problem with “Alma” being the mascot.

On the other hand, about the women’s tournament it was known that the champion team will win a juicy prize of 1,500,000 dollars and the runner-up 500,000 dollars.
