The plan for older adults in search of guaranteeing them a dignified life

In the last few hours, President Iván Duque launched the new National Public Policy on Aging and Old Age 2022 – 2031. With this, it seeks to guarantee the necessary conditions for healthy aging and a dignified old age. Also autonomy, independence, equality, equity and non-discrimination of this population.

This policy, in turn, defines the National Intersectoral Action Plan and creates the Observatory of Aging and Old Age. With this, the actions of the institutions at the national level to serve the elderly in the next 10 years will materialize.

In the process of construction of public policy, progress was made in the constitutional guarantees for this population. In this sense, the new norm is binding for service providers, academia, social organizations and others.

Among the main problems experienced by older people in Colombia is the economic security. The lack of financial stability becomes other needs that affect their quality of life, such as the lack of decent housing, care and comprehensive care.

The Government has stressed that they should be createdfavorable environments from early childhood that allow modifying the trends of future socioeconomic conditions.
