The government of Gustavo Petro, headed by the Minister of Health, Carolina Cork, filed his project reform to health, one of his flags of mandate and one of the most controversial proposals and one that has generated the most criticism against the Presidency.

During the filing ceremony, Minister Corcho assured that the reform is very important and that the objective is to vindicate the fundamental right to health: “It is a conquest of the social movements, of the democratic thought of this country that said no more to business with life“.
Also, it was learned that the document consists of 18 chapters and more than 150 articles (152, punctually).

During the presentation of the articles of the health reform, the 5 pillars on which the proposal is based were announced:
1. Public administration of public resources.
2. primary care.
3. Special Labor Regime for health workers.

Regarding the first, Corcho said: “The management of public health resources will be recovered so that they are transparently directed to the provision of health services and life care in Colombia in an equitable manner throughout the national territory“.

Regarding the second pillar, he explained that the foundation of the reform is primary health care, elements of prevention, care and rehabilitation throughout the national territory: A network of public, private and mixed primary health care centers will be built“.
Regarding the third pillar, he affirmed that it will focus on the “generation of a special labor regime that dignifies health workers who are currently in a situation of informality and precariousness“.
The fourth pillar, added Corcho, will focus on health is not only the care of the disease, but also “They are the social determinants of health such as drinking water, the environment, culture, food sovereignty“.
