The Permanent Commission of the Congress of the Union yesterday paid an emotional tribute to José Agustín Ortiz Pinchetti, whom representatives of all political forces described as one of the great builders of the democratic transition in the country.

For his part, Morena deputy Leonel Godoy highlighted Ortiz Pinchetti’s political participation. In 1986, he said, he accompanied PAN member Luis H. Álvarez to protest against electoral fraud in Chihuahua, he joined the demonstrations against the 1988 fraud against Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas and the 2006 one against Andrés Manuel López Obrador. César Cravioto, also a member of Morena, thanked the board of directors for quickly organizing this tribute to Ortiz Pinchetti, who passed away last Saturday. On behalf of the PAN, Deputy Martha Estela Romo also acknowledged his contributions to democracy and stated that through her, Santiago Creel also sent his greetings and condolences to the family of Ortiz Pinchetti, with whom he was a citizen advisor to the IFE.
