Although its population does not exceed 30 thousand inhabitants, its cultural and musical legacy has crossed borders. Majagual is recognized as the cradle of one of the most influential groups of Colombian tropical music: the corralos of Majagual, a group that revolutionized the country’s musical panorama since the 1960s, mixing rhythms such as the joint, the cumbia, the bagpipe, the fandango and the vallenato.
The birth of a musical icon
The Corraleros were founded by producer Antonio Fuentes, from Discs Fuentes, along with musicians such as Alfredo Gutiérrez, Lisandro Meza, Calixto Ochoa and Tobías Enrique Pumarejo, all true pillars of coastal music. The group took its name in tribute to the hometown of some of its members: Majagual.
With a cheerful, rumbero and explosive style, the Corraleros filled the popular Caribbean Flavor Festivities. His music was simple but powerful: accordion, box, guacharaca, drums and much tasty. Songs such as La Burrita, Los Sabanales, El Mondongo and La Paloma Guarumera became classics of Colombian music.
