This Tuesday, August 6, the commemoration ceremony was held for the Battle of Junin. The event did not include the participation of the president Dina Boluarte because hours before it was reported that, for “reasons of force majeure”, it was decided that the head of state would not be present.
In addition, videos were published on social media showing how citizens of the Junín region were prevented from entering the aforementioned event, causing discontent towards the authorities of the Executive power.
“The people were going to come here, the people were going to come in. We are children of here, the battle was fought here. Thanks to Junin “You have work, thanks to Junín you are free, thanks to the battle of Junín you are free. That did not happen year after year, this was not like that. Why do they bring the murderous Dina? Here Junín they do not want it. People want to watch the parade,” exclaimed a citizen, who was prevented from seeing the parade for the Bicentennial of the Battle of Junin.
PNP prevented public entry in Junín
The ceremony for the bicentennial of the Battle of Junin was marred by a confrontation between citizens and members of the National Police. According to images broadcast by Huancayo Noticias, a group of citizens tried to enter the ceremony, but were prevented by the PNP.
The situation escalated when angry citizens began to protest and push the police cordon. During the altercation, several media outlets covering the event were affected, as some police officers pushed the journalists’ equipment.
In the footage, a cameraman can be heard telling a police officer: “You’re pushing my camera.” Tensions rose when a citizen was arrested and taken to a patrol car, complaining about not being allowed in and demanding to be released: “This is my land! Leave me alone!”
Dina Boluarte announced that she will not participate in the commemoration ceremony for the Battle of Junín
The president Dina Boluarte He did not attend the ceremony to commemorate the Bicentennial of the Battle of Junínaccording to the Presidency in a statement published in X.
“The President of the Republic, Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarrawill not be able to participate today in the Bicentennial Commemoration Ceremony of the Battle of Junín, to be held at the Historic Sanctuary of Chacamarca – Pampa de Junín, for reasons of force majeure,” the statement said.
The announcement also indicated that the ceremony today, Tuesday, August 6, was to be presided over by the president of the Minister council, Gustavo Adrianzen Olayawho led the commemorative actions of this historic date.
The Battle of Junincommemorated every August 6 in Peru, marks one of the most crucial confrontations for the country’s independence. This battle, which took place in 1824 in the Pampas de Junín, stands out for not having involved the use of firearms, with swords, sabres and lances predominating. The battle was led by Simon Bolivar and was attended by approximately 8,000 patriots.
