Argentine coach Marcelo Bielsa, who is currently without a team, claims three million euros from Olympique de Marseille (OM)a club he resigned from in August 2015, his lawyers explained this Friday before a court of conflicts between workers and employers in Marseille, which must make a decision on January 27, 2023, as reported by the AFP agency.
Bielsa’s lawyers, Benjamin Cabagno and Arnaud Ibáñez, denounced “a fault” and an “unfair strategy” by OM in the management of their employment contract. According to the coach’s representatives, there is a breach of an agreement with the former president of the club, Vincent Labrune, related to a 25% increase in the salary that Bielsa should receive between the first and second seasons.
The French club, then represented by the general director, Philippe Pérez, and the lawyer of the then majority shareholder, Margarita Louis-Dreyfus, would have rejected at the last moment the increase in the monthly compensation net of taxes of 185,000 euros, which caused the departure of ‘El Loco’.
“The OM has deceived the system a bit,” assured the defense of the Argentine coach, who claims compensation for 25% salary increases for the 2015/2016 season, that is, 2,775,000 euros, non-pecuniary damage of 20,000 euros and damage to image and notoriety of 180,000 euros, not including the resolution of a tax dispute.
After a first season at the helm of OM, which ended in fourth position but turned Bielsa into the idol of the Marseillaisthe Argentine coach (67 years old) left the French club to everyone’s surprise on August 8, 2015, just after the first game of the season.
