Being a doctor, more than a vocation, is a life option. As a profession it carries a strong moral sense and a commitment to help people regain health. Those who practice medicine today agree in highlighting the immense satisfaction experienced after recovering a patient.

For Griselda Vargas, Medical Epidemiologist and director of the Medical Career at the Franz Tamayo University, Unifranz, It was the miracle of the cure and the effects on people and society that led her to choose her profession. “My motivation The first was born as a child and grew over time with the sole objective of providing help and serving”, he confesses.

Without a doubt, the Covid-19 pandemic made visible the importance of doctors in society. Health professionals demonstrated that, in the face of any circumstance or adversity, the mission of improving the health of patients is even ahead of their own lives.

Being a doctor in all times has been hard work with a lot of social Sensitivity, with human quality to care for patients. “At all times there have been epidemics, pandemics, that have forced us to act. Unfortunately, in the last one, due to ignorance, many colleagues and friends left (…) they have been the spearhead to combat this pandemic and together with them we learned to manage and treat the disease”, says Álvaro Muñoz, Surgeon and former Minister of health.

The main vocation of the doctor is to save lives, as described by Bruno Rojas. He has just finished his rotating internship, an experience that allowed him to understand that health problems can be solved with prevention.

“When I did my internship, I realized that many diseases have a sedentary lifestyle and poor diet as their etiology (origin), “says Rojas, who also stands out as an Olympic athlete. He believes that the State must implement preventive policies to improve health of the population, which would prevent complicated conditions that end up in diseases, often incurable.

The experience of Carlos Dabdoub, mMedical Neurosurgeon and current Vice Chancellor of Unifranz Santa Cruz headquarters makes him an authority in relation to public health policies. “We need a health system that allows our population to no longer have to go desperately looking for other places to recover their lives and that our doctors can provide that health with technology, with adequate infrastructure. The alliances that we have developed with different professional institutions since the university, allow us to train doctors who contribute to the country that we all dream of ”, he declared.

Medical work is more than embracing the art of healing, it is listening, containing, accompanying and empathizing with the patient who needs a medical professional. Applies specialized knowledge, enlightened by the spirit of service.

According to the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the countries of the region should have an average of 23 health professionals per 10,000 inhabitants. The exponential growth of medical science forces them to update permanently, which means preparing day by day to be more efficient and thus provide quality care to those who need us.
