During the Extraordinary National Assembly, where proposals to reform the statutes were presented to national councilors, such as the opening to citizen candidacies, new digital membership platforms and primary elections to select candidates, among other changes, Romero maintained that the process goes beyond an image renewal and aims to bring the party closer to the citizens.
“Our relaunch is not a cosmetic change, nor a superficial redesign, much less a change in values, causes or principles, it is a redefinition of how we want to speak to Mexico,” he stated.
From Santa Fe, in the west of Mexico City, Romero explained that, once the statutory modifications are approved, the PAN will be able to begin the formation of its Nation Project in 2026, based on three central objectives:
1) stop what they consider a “real attempt to establish authoritarianism in the country”;
2) win the greatest number of spaces in 2027 and endorse governments and mayors;
3) rebuild the institutions that, they claim, have been weakened by Morena.
Jorge Romero announced that the party will prepare a document with specific proposals on security, economy, health, social programs, environment, support for the countryside and education, among other topics.
“Don’t tell us that we don’t have it. With strategy, in 2027 we are going to regain balance in the Chamber of Deputies and in 2030 we are going to remove the Morena cartel from the National Palace,” he stated.
Jorge Romero said that in 2026 an army of 150,000 people will also be formed to take to the streets throughout the country to convince of their political project, from the neighborhoods and door to door.
