The Padilla Case, the latest film by Cuban filmmaker Pavel Giroud, will be screened on May 6 in Madrid.
As the director himself announced on his social media account: “One month before its theatrical release, it will be presented on Saturday, May 6 at the Cineteca de Matadero, as part of the Cámaras Lúcidas Section of DocumentaMadrid”.
The documentary recently won the award of that genre at the 2023 Platino Awards, therefore considered the best documentary of Ibero-American cinema in the tenth edition of these awards held in Madrid.
According to the synopsis of the site of the event where it will be shown on this occasion in the Spanish capital: “Some images rescued from oblivion, which never saw the light due to the painful testimony of the surrender of a dream, are the backbone of this film. Heberto Padilla was a Cuban poet who, when he dared to criticize the regime, was imprisoned and forced to publicly retract his words. The Cuban regime registered the statement, in an exercise in transparency that ends up turning against it. The result is an exercise in memory and subversion”.
