Daniel Ortega appointed Claudio Antonio Arana as Minister Counselor with consular functions of Nicaragua before the Russian Federation.
Through ministerial agreement 34-2022 published this Wednesday, August 10, in the official gazette The Gazettestates that “this agreement takes effect from the fourth day of August of the year two thousand and twenty-two”.
Ortega’s new file to represent Managua before Moscow is part of the last list that he presented to the member countries of the Central American Integration System (SICA) to obtain the General Secretariat of the organization.

The Nicaraguan dictatorship with the nomination of the shortlist made up of Werner Vargas, former Executive Director of SICA (2014-2020); Myriam Vásquez and Claudio Arana reached more sympathy with SICA and there is a great possibility that they will be granted the high administrative position.
Claudio Arana previously held the position of legal advisor for the Nicaraguan Foreign Ministry and according to his profile on LinkedIn works as an independent consultant.
On several occasions, the Ortega administration has reiterated its support for the Russian Federation and its president, Vladimir Putin. In addition, the Ortega-Murillo regime is a declared strategic ally of Russia, a country with which it has further strengthened relations in recent months, after the invasion of Ukraine.
