Civil and business organizations demanded in the Senate that freeze electoral reform or else there will be an avalanche of amparo and other resources, while the opposition block, made up of the National Action (PAN), Institutional Revolutionary (PRI), Democratic Revolution (PRD) and Citizen Movement (MC) parties, demanded the coordinator of Morena, Ricardo Monreal, that the approval of the draft be accelerated with the four pending laws of the plan B of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

The meeting with those who said they represented 84 organizations, although in fact only 10 attended, was held at the Political Coordination Board (Jucopo), chaired by Monreal, who commented at the end that he is concerned for what the technicians of the National Electoral Institute (INE) expressed a day before, but the reform will be approved and that it be the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) that decides.

Earlier, Luis David Ortiz Salinas, senator from MC, indicated that they urged Monreal to already upload the opinion of the draft on the electoral reform, because Morena has intentionally delayed it to allow less time for the SCJN to resolve the appeals that will to present.

In this regard, Monreal recalled that at first the opposition demanded that they not be given fast track and now they ask that it be approved. There is no delaying tactic, she clarified.

For his part, also in an interview, Ricardo Becerra Laguna, from the Institute of Studies for the Democratic Transition, explained that the meeting with members of the Jucopo was attended by representatives of 84 organizations that are against the approval of the electoral reform, since it only seeks to destroy the INE.

He denied being part of the group of organizations headed by businessman Claudio X. González, although he recognized that among the 84 groups there are some made up of members of the private initiative, which, he insisted, will accompany the unconstitutionality actions that are filed at the time. court.

“First, to accompany any action of unconstitutionality through the figure of amicus curiae and, on the other hand, well, look for the route of shelters”, given that This reform is so deep, so regressive and so harmful that it also ends up damaging fundamental rights, such as the right to identityBecerra said, adding that the president of Jucopo told them that he shares their concerns.

In a later interview, Monreal clarified that he was concerned about what the INE technicians pointed out a day before.

They placed us in a difficult procedure due to the lack of personnel, due to the cuts that some important areas would have, and what I said is that yesterday I was worried thus.

What I indicated to them was: this is everyone’s house, we receive them, but there is nothing to do in the Senate, I also told them that, with us the formal process has already been exhausted and it will have to be the Court that decides on the topics.
