The Ombudsman, Eduardo Leblanc González, reported that a complaint was opened ex officio by the Ombudsman’s Office to the company Mi Bus for stopping covering trunk routes as of Monday, May 23, which harms the users.
Leblanc, together with staff from the entity, toured various paid metrobus zones. “We are verifying the influx of people with this elimination of 30 routes, they maintain 300 damaged buses and this afternoon we will have a meeting with the manager of Mi Bus to also find out what alternative the company has thought of, although we understand the issue of efficiency with the fuel,” he said.
The complaint is based on the lack of frequency, the number of metrobus units or if a technical study has been carried out that shows the number of people who will be affected by this measure and what alternatives they have to guarantee the transport service to those communities. .
Leblanc stressed that on his first visit to the eastern area of the city, movement could be seen, but “we will follow up with our regional offices and verify on the ground in the coming days.”
According to the company Mi Bus, the decision to suspend operations is due to the high price of fuel and among the trunk routes that will stop providing service are: Vía España-Veranillo, December 24, Nuevo Tocumen, La Siesta, Las Mañanitas, Don Bosco For Transístmica there are: Mayor Díaz, Santa Librada, Mano de Piedra, Torrijos Carter, El Valle, Veranillo, December 24, La Siesta, Pedregal, Don Bosco; for Tumba Muerto they are: Ciudad Bolívar, Santa Librada, Mano de Piedra, Torrijos Carter, La Siesta, Las Mañanitas, Pedregal, Veranillo and 24 de Diciembre.
The Ombudsman will look for mechanisms so that users are not affected, although the measure by My bus would be temporary, a saturation is expected that could occur in paid areas.
