The Ombudsman questioned the anti-corruption strategy announced by the President of the Republic, Pedro Castillo, during his message to the nation this Thursday, July 28, before Congress for National Holidays.
Through its Twitter account, the entity warned that regulations such as the Executive Integrity Strategy “lose vigor” without clear leadership from the president in the fight against this social evil.
“Cases of corruption that compromise the president and his environment, as well as the appointment of officials investigated for this type of crime, neutralize the objectives of the aforementioned strategy”he indicated on the social network.
He also pointed out that the president’s message lacked measures aimed at reversing the delicate situation of the freedom of expression and information In our country.
“We regret that the Executive maintains a hostile attitude towards the media and that, to date, our recommendations have not been implemented, which are intended to ensure conditions that allow the free exercise of both freedoms”he underlined.
As recalled, Pedro Castillo admitted having made mistakes in the appointments he madebecause he considered that he gave confidence to officials and they did not know how to take advantage of it.
During his message to the Nation in the Chamber of Congress, the president clarified that the acts committed by the people to whom he gave confidence are contrary to his values.
“I must admit that we have made mistakes with some designations, as well as providing confidence to those who took advantage and mocked it. Nothing more opposed and distant to my values, my principles, my dignity are the acts that my own parents have instilled in me”he pointed out.
In that sense, he said he recognized the work carried out by the Prosecutor’s Office and the Judiciary, in reference to the investigations carried out against former officials such as the former Secretary General of the Government Palace Bruno Pacheco and the former minister John Silva.
“I recognize the work that is done from the Public Ministry and the Judicial Power, because in our country we suffer from an ancestral thirst for justice, which must be imparted equally and without distinction of ideologies and political colors”he asserted.
