The Ombudsman asks to audit electric power transmission companies

Due to the alleged violation of Human Rights and of the Collective Development Goal No.7 that indicates “Guarantee universal access to affordable, reliable and modern energy services”, the Ombudsman’s Office initiated a complaint process against the transmission companies of electrical energy and requests the Comptroller General of the Republic to undertake a comprehensive audit.

Through a note, the Ombudsman’s Office requests that said audit be carried out on: Empresa de Distribución Eléctrica Metro Oeste, SA; Empresa Energías y Servicios de Panamá, SA: Electricity Distribution Company Chiriquí SA (GAS NATURAL FENOSA); which operate in the national territory.

According to the letter from the Ombudsman, Eduardo Leblanc González, the initiative has the purpose of verifying the proper use and management of public funds, which have benefited from the rate stabilization fund and/or any other plan or program that leads to the use and/or management of funds from the taxes and rates of all natural and legal persons that inhabit the Republic of Panama.
