Bogotá, Dec 22 (Prensa Latina) The Consultancy for Human Rights and Displacement (Codhes) affirmed today that 2021 was the year with the highest number of victims of forced displacement in Colombia since the signing of the Peace Agreement in 2016.
According to data from the Codhes Information System on Human Rights and Displacement from January to November of this year, 82,846 people were displaced, a figure that represents an increase of 169 percent compared to 2020.
Likewise, 167 events of massive and multiple displacements occurred, with the greatest effects on people from ethnic groups.
He explained that seven out of 10 displaced people in 2021 have ethnic belonging, that is, 37,664 Afro-descendants were forcibly displaced, as well as 18,979 indigenous people.
The departments most affected by displacement were Nariño, Antioquia, Chocó and Cauca and the Pacific region, which had the highest number of victims due to this phenomenon.
Also, 2021 is the year with the highest number of massive and multiple displacements that have occurred since the signing of the Peace Agreement reached between the government of Juan Manuel Santos, on behalf of the State and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, Codhes pointed out.
He noted that in 2017 there were a total of 18,382 displaced people; in 2018 there were 52 thousand 601, in 2019 the number was 33 thousand 673, in 2020 it was 35 thousand 864 and in the mentioned period of the current year it was 82 thousand 846.
Although he did not mention the causes, throughout this stage, according to reports, this problem is a consequence of internal conflicts over the territories between criminal groups, mining megaprojects, clashes between the army and armed structures, drug trafficking, among others.
