The number of Movistar mobile lines is reduced by 5.45%

The amount of Movistar fell by 5.45% last year, reported the Supervisory Agency for Private Investment in Telecommunications (Osiptel). However, the operator continues to hold the largest share with 30.05% and 12’499,021 active lines.

For its part, the regulator specified that Claro and Entel increased their figures by 4.42% and 1.16% respectively. The first operator mentioned is even close to reaching Movistar’s percentage, since it has a 29.74% share.

According to Osiptel, Claro has 12,369,744 active lines, while Entel has 9,583,752 and Bitel 6,946,714 lines.

“Meanwhile, (mobile operators) Flash and Guinea Mobile registered 150,256 and 37,855 active lines, which meant 0.36% and 0.09% market share, respectively. While, Dolphin and Suma Móvil registered 140 and 133 lines each,” the regulator reported.

EVOLUTION

According to the information that the operating companies report to Osiptel, at the end of 2022, 41’587,615 active lines were reported. This represented a decline of 3.57% compared to the same period of the previous year, when 43’129,394 active lines were registered.

Of the total mobile lines in service, it is observed that the contract modality (postpaid and control) reached 40.9% of the mobile plant in December 2022, while the prepaid modality 59.10%.

Regarding the evolution of lines by contractual modality, it can be seen that Claro led the market for contract lines (postpaid and control) with 5’82,518 active lines. Meanwhile, Movistar ranked first in the prepaid market with 7,762,165 lines.
