Through a report, the Peruvian Ombudsman’s Office indicated that in the last month at least 41 protesters have died in direct confrontations with law enforcement. He explained that a policeman was burned and eight people lost their lives due to events related to the roadblocks, which have affected traffic in 99 points of the territory.
The number of deaths from the protests in Peru rose to 50, reported the Ombudsman of that country after reporting the death of a 39-year-old man in Moyobamba, on Sunday, January 15. The entity explained that the death occurred “due to a traffic accident linked to the road blockade.”
The Ombudsman detailed that 41 protesters have died in direct confrontations with the forces of order, a policeman was burned and eight people lost their lives due to events related to the roadblocks, which have affected traffic in 99 points of the national territory.

The organization indicated that there were mobilizations and peaceful concentrations in the provinces of Andahuaylas, Abancay and Chincheros as well as in the province of Hualgayoc, in the northern region of Cajamarca, and in Metropolitan Lima, in addition to dozens of roadblocks and the paralysis of activities in other parts of the country.
The number of deaths rose to 50, more than 22 in the last week, the majority last Monday, when 17 protesters lost their lives in clashes with law enforcement in the city of Juliaca, located in the southern region of Puno, bordering Bolivia.
Protesters call for the resignation of the president, Dina Boluartethe closure of Congress and the call for elections for 2023, among other claims.
