The Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare and the National Minimum Wage Commission reported that the number of companies that delivered profits to workers throughout 2021 grew by 72.5 percent compared to the previous year, that is, 64 thousand 546 companies more reported earnings.
The index in this line went from 89 thousand 38 companies that reported the delivery corresponding to the Participation of Workers in Profits (PTU) in 2020, to 153 thousand 548 that did the same in 2021.
Presenting a balance on the matter yesterday, the STPS endorsed the figures announced by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador last Friday, and stressed that in 2021 the distribution of profits from companies to workers grew by 109 percent: it went from 87 thousand 645 million pesos to 183 thousand 248 million pesos.
The increase in the matter was due, in part, to the reform of the Law on subcontracting, which generated that 2.7 million workers formally transferred to companies that report profits.
As part of the balance by entities, Sonora reported an increase in PTU for workers of almost 500 percent (498 percent); followed by Baja California, with 433 percent; Tabasco, with 254 percent; Quintana Roo, with 236 percent, and Colima, with 153 percent.
By sectors, the main increases were reported in the pharmaceutical industry (264 percent), wholesale trade (167 percent), copper and nickel mining (134 percent) and cell phones (118 percent), mainly. These are sectors that in previous years were characterized by resorting to subcontracting.
