According to Civil Defense, Araquari was the first city to declare an emergency after around 30 people were affected by the storms.

In Joinville, flooding affected entire streets and neighborhoods, damaging mobility and local infrastructure. Also according to Civil Defense, the city of São Bento do Sul also faced flooding and falling walls, while São Francisco do Sul and Itapoá reported road closures due to the damage.

“In other municipalities such as Guaramirim, Corupá and Jaraguá do Sul, the situation is no different. Guaramirim activated the contingency plan, fearing floods, while Corupá suffers from landslides and falling trees, further damaging mobility and safety conditions.”

In the city of Canoinhas, the flood damaged three homes and caused trees to fall. In Caçador, 38 people were affected by the rains, including five homeless people. The municipality of Bom Retiro, in the Lages Region, has 50 homes affected by floods and landslides, in addition to damage caused by falling barriers.

Rivers and bridges

Civil Defense also reported that in cities such as Lindóia do Sul, in the Concórdia Region, the Jacutinga and Engano rivers overflowed, covering bridges and isolating rural areas.

“The rains also damaged the road infrastructure in Dionísio Cerqueira and Palma Sola, in the west of the state, with the possibility of declaring an emergency situation due to the damage to the roads.”

In Flor do Sertão, in the Maravilha Region, a bridge that had been closed due to rain was reopened this Saturday, allowing local traffic to resume. In Xanxerê, the risk of landslides and flooding still mobilizes Civil Defense teams to ensure the safety of the population.

Risk of landslides

Data from the state’s Civil Defense Monitoring Center shows that the municipality of Dionísio Cerqueira leads in accumulated precipitation, with 186.4 millimeters (mm) of rain in the last 48 hours, “causing serious risks of landslides”. In Joinville, the accumulated rainfall was 129.8 mm, while in Lindóia do Sul, rainfall reached 138.6 mm.

In Schroeder, the accumulation was 93.4 mm in 24 hours. Cities such as Rio Negrinho, Guaramirim and Lindóia do Sul are on alert due to high river levels, which are close to or above the alert level.

“Civil Defense continues to monitor weather conditions and alert the population about risk areas,” said the statement.

More rain and care

Also according to the Civil Defense, the weather forecast indicates that, although the rains are expected to decrease in some regions of Santa Catarina from this Monday (9), the situation remains classified as “critical”, with the possibility of new intense rains. , especially in areas close to Paraná.

Civil Defense recommends that the population remains attentive to warnings and avoids risk areas. The population is advised to follow the updates issued and report any emergency by calling 199 or 193.

“Furthermore, it is essential that people pay attention to signs of soil instability and avoid flooded areas or areas at risk of landslides.”

“With the rains continuing and the situation still unstable, the work of the rescue and support teams intensifies and the authorities reinforce the need for a joint effort to protect the population and minimize the damage caused by nature.”
