The March of Silence of Mothers and Relatives of Uruguayans Detained and Disappeared, in its 28th edition, was carried out last Saturday with a massive call. Under the slogan “Where are they? Never again state terrorism”, this emotional event brought together thousands of people committed to memory, truth and justice in Uruguay.
The appointment was at 7:00 p.m. at the intersection of Rivera and Jackson streets, from where a march began towards the emblematic July 18th street. In that place, a central act was carried out in which the names of the disappeared persons during the military dictatorship were pronounced. This tribute has become an annual reminder of the fight for the search for the truth and the denunciation of State terrorism.
While tens of thousands marched without saying a single word, demanding truth and justice, the President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, was in another place and neither he nor his presidential leadership issued any statement in favor of this social struggle that is separated from of all partisan political flag.
Lacalle Pou celebrated on May 20 in an elegant restaurant in Carrasco
Plaza Cagancha, in the heart of Montevideo, was the arrival point of the 28th March of Silence. Lacalle Pou not only chose not to speak or appear at the call, but decided to go to dinner with Lorena Ponce de León at an elegant and refined restaurant in Carrasco.
In an Instagram post from the famous Café Misterio, one of the most recognized in the capital city, Lacalle Pou and Ponce de León are seen enjoying a multi-course dinner from the advanced contemporary cuisine that the place offers.
“Last night 05/20 @cafemisterio celebrated its 30th anniversary!” says one of the Instagram posts. Later, they published a series of photographs in which the presidential couple is seen sitting with some of the owners of the place.
Among the haute cuisine dishes they were able to taste, as seen on one of the menus that appear in the photographs, Campari and grapefruit sorbet, pickled fish, Tropea onion caramelized with goat cheese, pejerey al tuco, risotto in water of tomatoes, and several more.
