The Nicaraguan justice system withdrew the nationality of at least 94 people critical of President Daniel Ortega on Wednesday, accused of the crime of “treason against the homeland,” magistrate Ernesto Rodríguez reported in official media.
Rodríguez read a resolution in which he indicated that these people were imposed “accessory penalties” that include absolute and special disqualification from holding public office, as well as holding positions of popular election and the loss of their citizen rights “in an life”.
On the list there are opponents, journalists, former ambassadors or former deputies; among them stand out the poet Gioconda Belli and the former vice president of Nicaragua Sergio Ramírez.
