The American media indicates that military officers have already begun to define the action plan and the options they would have to persecute these groups considered terrorists
The president of the United States, Donald Trump, secretly authorizes the use of military force against Latin American drug cartels, according to information published in the American media The New York Times, This Friday, August 8.
The Directive aimed at Pentagon raises the beginning of the use of military fury against some organizations considered terrorists by the Donald Trump government. The order establishes an official basis for the possibility of direct military operations in the sea and in foreign territory against the cartels.
The media explains that the US military began to define the action plan and the options they would have to chase these groups.
According to people familiar with the matter, cited by the The New York Times, The decision to incorporate the American army into the fight against cartels is the most aggressive measure until the date the Trump government has taken.
Legal inconveniences
Starting military action in the fight against illicit drug trafficking, also raises legal issues, among which are if the fact that US forces, acting outside an armed conflict authorized by Congress, kill civilians, even alleged criminals, who do not represent an imminent threat.
On this issue, it is not yet clear what the lawyers of the White House, the Pentagon and the State Department have said, or if the Legal Advice Office of the Department of Justice has issued an authorized opinion that evaluates the legal issues.
When asked about Trump’s authorization for the use of the military force against the cartels, Anna Kelly, spokesman for the White House, declared in an email that “the main priority of President Trump is to protect the homeland, which is why he made the bold decision to designate several cartels and bands as foreign terrorist organizations.”

Los Soles poster declared terrorist organization
On July 26, the United States Government designated the Los Soles poster As a terrorist organization when considering that this criminal group actively supports the Sinaloa cartel and the Transnational Train of Aragua, organizations that were also recently designated as terrorists.
The inclusion of the Soles poster in the list of terrorist organizations will allow the United States to use “all resources at their disposal to prevent Maduro from benefiting from the destruction of US lives and destabilizing the hemisphere,” according to what was published by the Department of the Treasury.
Republican legislators in the US have pressed for years for this designation. During Trump’s first mandate (2017-2021), the Department of Justice had already presented formal criminal charges against Nicolás Maduro and other government officials of course drug trafficking and “narcoterrorism.”
A day after the designation of the aforementioned group as a terrorist organization, the United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, accused Nicolás Maduro of being allegedly the “leader of the Los Soles Cartel.”
Through a publication on his account in X, the American official said that the Sol Cartel has “seized” of Venezuela and is accused of “introducing drugs in the United States.”
